Lions struggle in second half and fall to Transylvania

LEXINGTON, Kentucky – The Mount St. Joseph men's basketball team traveled to Transylvania University to continue Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday night. The Lions competed with the Pioneers all throughout the first half but a Pioneers run in the second half stunned the Lions and they dropped the match 74-56.

The Lions went head-to-head with the Pioneers to open up the first half and neither team was able to take a significant lead. The Lions were able to tie the score at 17 with seven minutes remaining and went on a 6-0 run over the next four minutes. Transylvania chipped away at the lead and was able to tie the score at 29 going into the locker room. Shaun Sullivan (Louisville, KY / DeSales) was the leading scorer for the Lions at the half, scoring nine points while shooting 100% from the field and free throw line.

The Pioneers opened up the second half on fire, going on a 12-2 run in the opening five minutes of the game. The Lions struggled to find their offense in the second quarter and the deficit continued to grow. The Mount wasn't able to overcome the deficit and fell to the Pioneers with a final score of 74-56. Devin Young (Crestwood, KY / South Oldham) led the Lions on offense, scoring 20 points while grabbing five rebounds and dishing five assist. The Lions also shot 100% from the free throw line during the loss.
