Lions come up short in upsetting loss

LOCATION: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, OH)

THE BASICS:

In a cross town matchup your Mount Lions took on Cincinnati Christian University. The Lions started off the match slow finding themselves down 2-0 at the half. The second half was a defensive battle but the Lions couldn't overcome the deficit losing 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the first half the Lions weren't able to gain any momentum in their favor. Defense was a huge factor in the match, neither team was able to strike first in the early minutes. Halfway through the half the visiting Eagles were able to use their speed to find the back of the net at the 23 minute mark. The Lions battled to fight back but Cincinnati Christian was able to maneuver through the defense to score another goal to end the first half with the score 2-0. The second half told the same story, the Lions offense was unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Neither team was willing to give up which showed in their aggressive defense. A late goal by Cody Hacker (Cleves, OH / Harrison) gave the Lions a glimpse of hope as they fought back in the final minutes. Multiple shots were put up to try and even up the score but the Lions weren't able to find the goal.  The Eagles were able to defeat the Lions with a final score of 2-1.

THE STANDOUTS:

Senior Cody Hacker took 3 shots and scored the lone goal for the Mount. Goalie Will Schwing (Greendale, IN / Lawrenceburg) came in after the half and made a pivotal save in the closing minutes of the game to try and spark some momentum for the team.
