Lions earn first win at home tri-match

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph men's volleyball team hosted a tri-match and welcomed the Wittenberg University Tigers and the Thomas More University Saints. In the Lions first match against the Tigers the Lions got off to a slow start but found a way to take set three. After a valiant effort from The Mount, Wittenberg took the fourth set and the victory. The Lions picked up their play in the second match against Thomas More and swept the Saints in three straight sets.

In the Lions match against the Saints they quickly found their groove. The Mount took a 10-2 lead on a five point service run from Ben Holt (Cincinnati, OH / Roger Bacon). The Lions managed to keep a significant lead throughout the set due to Thomas More errors and finished the set 25-17. The Saints challenged the Lions in the opening points of the second set. Zack Storc (Columbus, OH / Bishop Watterson) gave the Lions some breathing room with a three point service run halfway through the set. The Lions capitalized on Thomas More errors and found another five point service run from Josh Kabel (Centerville, OH / Alter) going into the final points. The Saints went on a run down 13-23 but the deficit was too much and the Lions won set two 25-16. The Lions wasted no time catching fire in the third set and quickly took a 9-4 lead. Nick Meldardis (Indianapolis, IN / Cathedral) served the next six points to put the Lions up 14-5 and put the match out of reach. A service ace from Nathan Schatzman (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) gave the Lions an easy 25-12 set three victory.

Storc was on fire against Thomas More, earning 11 kills and 7 digs while swinging .668. Hayden Wood (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) and Schatzman contributed 6 kills each to help the Lions offense.
