Lions split with The Dutch of Central College

Auburndale, FL – On their fourth day in Florida, the Lions (7-6) split two games with the Dutch of Central College (9-5). Game one was a tight matchup, with the Lions out-hitting the Dutch by 5 hits, but falling short, 5-4. Game two was all Lions as they coasted to an 11-0 victory.

Game 1

Freshman Jason Fischer (Cincinnati, OH / Colerain) was sent to the mount in the first game and gave the Lions four innings, allowing 4 hits, 4 earned runs, and striking out 5. Despite pitching well, Fischer was given the loss.

The Lions were first to cross the plate after a 2-run homerun from Roman Rothwell (Monroe, OH / Monroe) in the top half of the 2nd. The Dutch would tie the game in the bottom half with a run of their own. In the 3rd, the Lions would score off an RBI single to center field from Nathan Hunter (Vevay, IN / Switzerland County). The Mount scored another run in the inning on a fielder's choice. After two singles to lead off the 4th, Brandon Shelton (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest) would step to the plate and deliver with an RBI single to center field. Down 2, the Dutch would score 3 in the 5th, bringing the final score to 5-4.

Game 2

Given the nod in game two was freshman Nathan Renner (Pleasant Prairie, WI / Tremper) and would not disappoint. Renner received his second win on the season after 7 strikeouts, 3 hits, and a complete game shutout of the Dutch.

The offense was clicking in game two as the Mount accumulated 11 runs off 18 hits. The Lions did majority of their damage in the 1st inning, with 8 hits, and hanging a 6 spot on Central. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Mount would score 2 more runs off 3 hits.  With one out in the bottom of the 4th, Jose Bustamante (Austell, GA / South Cobb) would drive the ball deep to left field for a 2-run homerun, totaling 4 RBI's in the game for Bustamante. The Lions scored one more run in the 6th off a sacrifice fly from Simon Schaefer (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier).
