Lions Drop Hard Fought Game in Florida

AUBURNDALE, FL - The Mount St. Joseph University Lions baseball team took on the Saints of Marymount University on day four of the Russ-Matt Invitational. The Lions were unable to get a run off of their five hits and ended up falling to the Saints 2-0.

Jacob Hughes (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) took the mound to start of the game for The Mount. He pitched 5.1 innings, faced 22 batters and struck out two batters. The Saints were able to get five hits off of Hughes leading to their two runs of the game. One run in the top of the 2nd and another in the top of the 6th inning.

In the bottom of the 4th inning The Mount was able to put themselves in a position to take the lead. It started with Tyrell Anderson (Cincinnati, OH / Western Hills) singling through the left side. Michael Sundahl (Fort Wayne, IN / Bishop Dwenger) reached first base on a throwing error by the Saints third baseman, allowing him to advance to second base and pushing Anderson to third. Both Lions found themselves in scoring position with two outs but unfortunately The Mount was unable to push across a run before the inning ended.

Wyatt Myers (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) came in to finish out the game for The Mount. He faced 15 batters in his 3.2 innings of work while striking out three. Myers gave up 6 hits during his duration on the mound but none of them transferred into any additional runs. Roman Rothwell (Monroe, OH / Monroe) tried his hardest to drill in a run going 3 for 4 at the plate but was unable to bring it full circle.

The Mount will continue play down in Florida at the Russ-Matt Invitational on Saturday March 16th at 9:45AM and 12:15 PM, as they take on the Spartans of D'Youville College. Continue to check out for more updates on The Lions while in Florida and the rest of the 2019 season!
