FLORENCE, Ky. - The Mount St. Joseph University baseball team hosted the Cardinals of Otterbein College on a Wednesday night matchup. The Cardinals remained constant throughout the game but The Lions could not catch a break and ended the game being defeated 9-0.
Freshman Zack Bell (Hamilton,Ohio/Hamilton) got the start on the mound pitching 6.1 innings allowing 7 runs on 9 hits. The Cardinals would get a single run in each of the first three innings followed by a pair of runs in the fourth. He was replaced by Jacob Hughes (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) who pitched 1.2 inning allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. Otterbein would separate themselves even more in the seventh and eighth inning as they would earn four more runs split between the two. Brady Jones (Augustana, Ky./Bracken County) came on to close the game pitching 1 inning of perfect baseball.
The one Lion who stood out offensively was freshman catcher, Hunter Collins (Middletown,Ohio/Monroe) who was able to collect 2 hits in 3 at bats. Roman Rothwell (Monroe,Ohio/Monroe) also had a good showing today going 1 for 2 with a walk through his three plate appearances.
