Lions Fall to Harriers in Road Game

HAMILTON, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph University baseball team travelled to take on the Harriers of Miami University Hamilton. The Lions would score first but fall behind and not be able to make up the difference and ended being defeated 6-3.

Freshman Zack Bell (Hamilton,Ohio/Hamilton) started off on the mound for The Lions. During his five inning stint he gave up five runs on seven hits. The Lions were the first to strike in the top of the third inning when Ryne Poli (Cincinnati,Ohio/Elder) made it on fielder's choice and pushed Trey Siciliano (Cape Coral,Fla./Oasis) across the plate.

Nathan Renner (Pleasant Prairie,Wis./Tremper) came in to take over Bell. Renner would pitch the remaining three innings and face 12 batters. The Harriers were able to manage one run off of two hits taking their lead to five runs.

The Mount would try to make a comeback in the top of the 9th but were held to only two runs. The first came when Jose Bustamante (Austell,Ga./South Cobb) singled up the middle and was able to advance on a throwing error giving Siciliano the opportunity to score. The second run came when Garrett Hogan (Hamilton,Ohio/Badin) sacrificed himself to push Poli to snag The Lions final run of the game.

When the final out of the game happened The Mount found themselves still down by three runs and fell to the Harriers of Miami University Hamilton. This takes The Lions overall record to 9-12. The Mount will be back in action Saturday, April 13th as they travel to take on the Beavers of Bluffton University in a conference double header.
