Lions upended by Dickinson 80-64

MARIETTA, Ohio- The Lions fell for the second straight day in the Great Lakes Invitational. This time falling to Dickinson College 80-64. 

This game started off very tight, with neither team able to gain a quick advantage. At least until Dickinson knocked-down back-to-back three-pointers to pull in front, 15-5, with 15:27 remaining in the first half.

The Lions looked to make a run but the Devils remained in control, leading 46-34 at halftime.

The Lions were led by Adam Goetz (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry) in the first half as he scored 12 to go along with 4 rebounds. 

The Red Devils continued to hold a double-digit lead for the better part of the second half. The Lions continued to look to make runs to cut the deficit but Dickinson was able to answer on each occasion.

Andrew Finley (Cincinnati, OH/Walnut Hills) hit a three-pointer to pull Mt. St. Joseph within nine, at 12-minute mark, but that would be as close as they would come for the remainder of the game.

This was a rough effort all around for the Lions as they shot just 40.4 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from beyond the three-point line and 53.8 percent from the free-throw line. All while allowing Dickinson to shoot better than 55 percent from the field, 47 percent from three, and 88 percent from the line. The Lions also struggled on the boards in this one being out rebounded 36-27.

Goetz again led the way for the Lions with 14 points, for his performance he was named to the Great Lakes Invitational all-tournament team.

The Lions will have another quick turnaround as they will host Wilmington College on Tuesday at 7:30 pm in the Harrington Center.
