Coach Carrigan gets 100th career win; Lions stay unbeaten in HCAC play

Location: Harrington Center (Cincinnati, OH)

The Basics:

The Mount traveled to Transylvania University on Wednesday, looking to stay undefeated in conference play and achieve Coach Carrigans' 100th win. Firing out of the gates, the Lions established an early lead, which they maintained most of the first half. The Lions shot 40% from the field as they were able to hold the lead to 33-30 going into halftime. The second half was back and forth with both teams trading buckets, but the Lions were able to answer every Transy run and defeated The Pioneers 73-64.

How it Happened:

The Lions found themselves in a tough spot early on in this one, as Erik Edwards (Cincinnati, OH/Roger Bacon) picked up two fouls in the games first 3 minutes. With Edwards on the bench for the remainder of the first half senior guard Jordan Henry (Lexington, KY / Bryan Station) took up the slack scoring 12 first half points. Behind Henry's aggressiveness, the Lions started the game with a 13-6 run. Halfway through the first half, the Mount found themselves trailing 20-13, until a huge three from junior forward Jake Cropper (Georgetown, OH / Georgetown) brought them to within four. With 5:24 to play in the half The Mount was able to finally pull even at 26 as Cropper drove the lane for a layup. They outscored the Pioneers 7-4 over the closing minutes of the half to take a 33-30 lead into the break.

Senior guard Andrew Finley (Cincinnati, OH / Walnut Hills) opened the second half on fire as he scored 11 of the first 15 points for The Mount. At the 16:42 mark a Transy jumper trimmed the Lions lead to 2. From that point the Lions went on a quick 12-5 caped by a huge three from Cropper, extending the lead to 9 points with 12 minutes left. The Pioneers fought to decrease the lead, but the Lions offense was clicking, shooting 58% from the field in the half. The Mount finished strong defeating the Pioneers with a final score of 73-64.

Finley lead the way with 25 points and 6 rebounds for the Lions and made a huge impact on holding the lead late in the game. Henry also influenced the game with 14 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Cropper played well scoring 14 points and 3 assists. Head Coach, Toby Carrigan, reached his 100th win plateau behind a great team win by the Lions.
