Tough first round dooms Lions to ninth place finish at Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic

CLAYTON, Indiana -- The Mount St. Joseph men's golf team traveled to Clayton, Ind. to take part in the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic hosted by DePauw University. The Lions got off to a tough start, shooting a season-worst 323 in round one. In round two the Lions were able to rebound nicely, to the tune of a 298 team score. 

All five Lions struggled on day one, as not a single player was able to break 80. Round two was much different though with four players firing a score in the 70's. Ethan McCarthy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) followed up is opening round 81, with his season-low round of 71. David Dattilo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), Matt Paluga (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest), and Frankie Hofmeyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) all each followed up their tough first rounds with rounds in the 70's. The teams 298 score in round two was their season-low team score round. 

Overall the Lions finished ninth in the tournament, the outstanding final round was not enough to overcome the slow start.
