Lions Take Game into Double Overtime

Lions Take Game into Double Overtime

Location: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, OH)

The Basics:

The Lions hosted the Tigers of Wittenberg University on Schueler Field for a Wednesday nights match up. The first half came and went without either team finding the back of the net leaving a halftime score of 0-0. In the second half each team got a taste of the good life each snatching a goal bringing the score at the end of regulation to 1-1. First overtime came to a close with no one being able to take home the victory leading to a second overtime.

How it Happened:

The Lions and Tigers went into battle exchanging shots throughout the first half but neither side was able to prevail with a goal. The score going into half time was knotted at 0-0. The stand still continued into the second half. Each team with close calls to take the lead of the game but the defenses were working over time making sure the score remained 0-0.  Wittenberg was the able to make a connection with the back of the net with about 11 minutes left in regulation time. With the clock winding down Alonzo Garcia Alvarez (Harrison, OH/ Harrison) made a goal to tie the game with a mere five minutes left on the clock bringing the game back to an even score of 1-1. At the end of regulation time the score remained 1-1 taking the game into overtime. The first overtime was an intense display of dramatic shot after shot and save after save forcing the game into the second overtime. Unfortunately the Tigers were able to secure the win with two minutes left to play ending the game with a final score of 2-1.

The stand out is Garcia-Alvarez for his late in the game goal to keep the Lions in the game forcing it into overtime.
