Crawfordsville, Indiana - In a Tuesday night matchup the Lions traveled to Wabash College to take on the Little Giants for their last non-conference game. The Lions have struggled on the road this year and the Lions couldn't get it done versus Wabash as they were defeated 5-2.
Wabash got the offense going quick with 6 shots (only one on target) in the first 19 minutes of the game with one of them finding the net. Wabash was able to cross a ball into the box and they put it away for a goal. But it wasn't long before the Lions would fire back. Each team would exchange shots before Sophomore Cameron Willis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Lasalle) would find a hole in the defense and take it himself for goal one-on-one with the keeper in the 26th minute. Wabash responded quickly with another goal in the 34th minute which gave them the lead again at 2-1. The Lions then got an opportunity to equalize again with a shot from Freshman Daniel Good (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill) but it was blocked by a defender. Shortly after the Lions surrendered a penalty kick and Wabash was able to convert which gave them a 3-1 lead. As the second half started the Little Giants came out of the gates strong. Only 3 minutes into the second half they were able to find the net again. This time there was a scramble in the box and after a ball tipped off a Lion defender the score tallied 4-1. The Lions were able to keep Wabash off the board for most of the second half until Wabash was able to score a goal from the right side of the box pushing the score to 5-1. But the Lions weren't done yet. Again, there was a scramble in the box and Freshman John Limonteco-Garcia (Florence, Ky./Boone Co.) was able to get a foot on the ball and push it in for MSJ's second goal trimming the lead to 5-2 in the 88th minute. But, the Lions ran out of time to equalize, with the final score ending 5-2.
Up next, the Lions continue their road trip and travel to Earlham College on Saturday October, 5th to take on the Quakers. Kickoff is set to begin at 3:30PM. Continue to check out MSJSports.com for more updates on the Lions 2019 season.
