CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph University Lions closed out their regular season with two home Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League matches against the Augustana College Vikings and Loras College DuHawks. After a slow start to match one the Lions were able to defeat the Vikings three sets to one but were unable to defeat the DuHawks in close five set thriller. In the first match against the Vikings the Lions got off to a slow start but managed to tie the score midway through the game. The Vikings would make another push in the final points of the game and took the first set 25-19. The Lions brought the energy in the second set and took an 8-3 lead on a six point service run from Darrell Swanson (Las Vegas, NV / Arbor View). The Vikings quickly countered with a run of their own and tied the score at nine. After back and forth points the Lions were able to break away with another service run from Swanson to give them a 22-14 lead. Swanson was able to finish out set two 25-19 with a kill to tie the score. The Vikings challenged the Lions in the third set and despite a five point service run from Rey Sanchez (Arvada, CO / Ralston Valley High School), Augustana kept the score close. Tied at 22, Jason Hascher (Miamisburg, OH / Alter) earned an ace and back to back errors from the Vikings would give the Lions a 25-22 set three victory. The Vikings didn't give up in the fourth set and led most of the match. The Lions rallied in the final points to tie the score and would eventually go into extra points. Back to back kills from Swanson and a Viking error would give The Mount the 28-26 set three victory and the match 3-1.

In the Lions next match they battled with the DuHawks for the final spot in the MCVL Tournament. The Lions performed well in the second set and despite a close set the Lions were able to pull out the victory 25-23 after a DuHawk error.
