The Lions defeat Defiance to wrap up perfect day at The Mount

CINCINNATI. OH - The Mount St. Joseph Lions hosted the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College on the back end of a conference doubleheader in the Harrington Center. The Lions came into the game with a conference record of 3-4 and the Yellow Jackets with a 2-5 conference record.

The first quarter belonged to The Mount as the Lions returned to their home court with a renewed energy ready to get improve their conference record.  The first quarter finished with the Lions ahead 15-9. They kept the pressure on and the energy up as they continued to conquer the game during the second quarter as evidenced by the growth in their lead from 6 to 9 points. Defiance College was held to 9 points in both of the first two quarters. They ended the first half with the score of 27-18.

The third quarter came and went with the Yellow Jackets coming out with double the drive they had in the first half. Defiance was able to sneak in and take control of the lead with a last second 3 pointer to cause the Lions to end with quarter trailing 42-45. The final quarter of the game began with back and forth action with neither team able to find a way to gain a comfortable lead. The Lions were able to separate themselves by 5 points with 3 minutes left knowing they needed to keep their foot on the gas. As the buzzer rang The Mount was able to improve their record to 9-6 and 4-4 in conference with a final score of 59-55!

Four Lions aided the team with over ten points secured. Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy) scored 14 points with 2 assists and 2 rebounds. Alehia Tucker (Covington, KY / Holy Cross) finished the game with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Mackenzie Marcum (Mason, OH / Kings) and Jaleah Fair-Harris (Columbus, OH / Centennial) both accounted for 11 points. Marcum was able to snag 5 rebounds and an assist. Lainee Studer (Pleasant Plain, OH / Little Miami) was a beast on the defense side of the court with 10 rebounds,  2 steals and 2 blocks while still scoring 6 points and giving 5 assists.

The Lions next game will be Wednesday, January 16th at 7:00 PM in the Harrington Center as they host the Panthers of Hanover College. Continue to check for more updates on the Lions 18-19 season!
