Lions drop tight game against Chatham

Location: Ellis Field (Pittsburgh, PA)

The Basics:

The Mount St. Joseph University women's lacrosse faced off against the Cougars of Chatham University in a first time conference matchup. The Lions fought hard through the first half coming up with a halftime score of 8-8.  The fight continued into the second half but it wasn't enough to come out victorious with a final score of 12-11. The Mount still holding onto their 5th place conference spot.

How it Happened:

The Cougars came out fast going up on the Lions by three goals. The Mount answered back with a trio of goals themselves. Brianna Brannon (Cincinnati, OH/ Seton) scored first off of a free position shot followed by Courtney Gleason (Cincinnati, OH/ Seton). The Lions and Cougars exchanged goals all half.  Chatham went up by one before the Mount scored three more consecutive goals.  First, Gleason from Brannon than Grace Crawford (Cincinnati, OH/ Wyoming) and Maria Sams (Cincinnati, OH/ Oak Hills) both go unassisted.  Chatham went to get two more goals bringing it back to a tied up game.  Gleason and Brannon would go goal for goal with the Cougars to finish the half all tied up at 8-8.

In the second half Gleason was the first to strike and give the Mount the lead to start the half.  Chatham had other plans and scored four goals giving them a three point lead with just over eight minutes left in the half.  Gleason grabbed one more to lessen the lead and bring her game total to 6 followed by an assist to Kara Marshall (Cleveland, OH/ Laurel).  Unfortunately the Lions could not sneak another one in before the buzzer rang leaving the Lions down one goal 12-11.
