Single Game Scoring Record Broken During Lions 26-6 Victory

DELHI, Ohio - The Mount St. Joseph University women's lacrosse team took on the visiting Grizzlies of Franklin College today in their last home conference matchup. During today's game the seniors were celebrated, multiple Lions found the back of the net, a team record was broken, and The Lions came out victorious. The Lions were able to defeat the Grizzlies 26-6, earning them a conference victory and improving their record to 3-2 in the HCLC. 

Before the game The Lions took time to recognize the teams two seniors and their time as a part of the women's lacrosse team. Senior's Joy Glacken (Cleves,Ohio/Taylor) and Sara Winsted (Ross,Ohio/Ross) were both honored before the game in front of their family, friends, and teammates as they were about to play their last home game of their career. 

The Lions would get things started early in the first half as freshman Megan Dancer (Springboro,Ohio/Springboro) would find the back of the net and record her first of many goals throughout the game. The Lions would immediately get another goal as Joy Glacken would score and make the score 2-0 in favor of The Lions just five minutes into the game. Five Lions would then go on and score in the span of 11 minutes, getting six goals and building The Lions lead to 8-0. Scoring for The Lions during this time was Brianna Brannon (Cincinnati,Ohio/Seton), who recorded two goals, Olivia Hocker (Liberty Township,Ohio/Lakota West) with an assist by Joy Glacken, Joy Glacken with an unassisted goal, Ashley Costa (Milford,Ohio/Milford) with an assist by Olivia Hocker, and Megan Dancer with an unassisted goal. 

The Grizzlies would get their first goal of the game before going back and forth with The Lions for a couple of goals. With nine minutes left to play in the first half The Lions would be leading the Grizzlies 11-3. During the back and forth scoring Megan Dancer would score off an assist by Joy GlackenPaige Naber (Loveland,Ohio/Loveland) would score unassisted, and Joy Glacken would get another unassisted goal. 

Through the remainder of the first half The Mount would add three more goals to their total, Megan Dancer would continue to score and build off her hat trick, finding the back of the net two more times before the half ended. Olivia Hocker would get the final goal of the half from a free position shot, as The Lions would hold a tremendous 15-3 lead over the Grizzlies entering the half. 

As the second half begun Megan Dancer would immediately score off a free position shot. The Grizzlies wouldn't take long to answer back and get a goal of their own as The Lions led 16-4. The Lions would go on an eight goal-scoring streak over a 14 minute span during the half. Megan Dancer would continue to score for The Lions during this time, recording four goals, as she tied and the ultimately broke the women's lacrosse team record for most goals scored in a single game as she found the back of the net a total 10 times throughout the game. Also scoring during the 14 minute span for The Mount was Joy Glacken with two unassisted goals, and Olivia Hocker with two unassisted goals. The Lions would be leading the Grizzlies 24-4 with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. 

As the clock continued to wind down both teams would go back and forth in scoring, getting a pair of goals each. Brianna Brannon would score The Lions final two goals of the game, both unassisted. The Lions would ultimately defeat the Grizzlies of Franklin College by a score of 26-6 and earn themselves a huge win on senior night!

With today's win The Lions improved their HCLC record to 3-2. The Lions final regular season game will take place on Saturday, April 27th as they take on the Pioneers of Transylvania University in a HCLC matchup. The game is set to begin at 1PM.
