Women's Soccer defeat Alma 2-0 securing first season win

Location: Schueler Field (Cincinnati, OH)

The Basics:

The Lions started their season at home against the Scots of Alma College. The Lions went into halftime with a lead of 1-0. During the second half the scored doubled and the game ended with the Lions in the lead 2-0.

How it Happened:

Lions met the Scots of Alma and they traded shots on goal during the beginning of the first half until senior Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, OH/ Harrison), assisted by Paige Mersmann(Florence, KY/ Boone County), broke through and scored the first goal of the season. The Scots were able to hold off the Lions aggressive offense until halftime keeping the score 1-0. The beginning of the second half started scoreles once again until Stefanie Autenrieb (Cincinnati, OH/ Seton) took a gutsy shot from way downtown that made its way into the back of the net bringing the Lions lead to 2-0. The Mount continued to attack throughout the second half but could not make another connection. The time ran out giving the Lions their first victory of the season with a final score of 2-0.

Standouts:

Gruber and Autenrieb both led the Lions offense with a goal each. The Mount's defense was incredible during the match, holding Alma to only two shots on goal.
