Lions open up the season with a tie against Trine

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Lions openned up the 2019 regular season with a 1-1 tie against the Thunder of Trine University. 

 

The Lions fiund themselves in a good spot in the 26th minute as a handball in the box by Trine gave the Lions a penalty kick oppurtunity. The penalty kick was taken by senior Paige Mersmann (Florence, Ky./Boone County) and gave the Lions an early 1-0 lead. With both teams playing solid defense the scored remained 1-0 at the half. Shortly after halftime Trine was able to even the score at 1 after a penalty shot was surrendered by the Lions. After both teams continued with great defense the game was forced into overtime. Both teams had shots on target in overtime including a spectacular one-on-one save by junior goalkeeper Maddie Muterspaw (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown). But, nobody was able to find the net as the Lions tied Trine after double-overtime. 

 

Up next the Lions take on the Colonels of Centre on Sunday 9/1, a 1pm kickoff at Amend Field in Danville, Ky.
