The Lions traveled to Rose Holman this Wednesday to continue conference play. In a close first set the Lions were able to pull away with the win. Unable to continue their momentum the Lions would drop three straight sets, losing the match 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first set neither team was able to find their groove offensively. The score remained within three points for the whole set. The score was tied at 21 when the Sydney Wilzbach (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest) would go on a four point service run to lead the Lions to victory, winning 25-22. In another close set neither team was able to pull away early. The Engineers went on a run and wouldn't look back, taking the set 25-17. The Lions continued their struggles in the second set, finding themselves down early. Down 18-12, a service run by Cailey Plemmons (Oxford, OH / Talawanda) gave the Lions life as they looked to even the score. The Lions continued to keep the match close but costly errors in the final points gave Rose Hulman the third set 25-22. The Engineers continued their offensive success to take an early lead in the final set. The Lions weren't able to overcome to deficit to drop the final set 25-13.
Briana Looney (Harrison, OH / Harrison) to lead the Lions offense with 14 kills while also protecting the net with four blocks. Karlie Schell (West Harrison, IN / Franklin County) recorded a career high in digs with 24 to lead the Lions defense. Sydney Wilzbach orchestrated the offense to earn her 1,000th career assist, an impressive career milestone.
The Lions (12-11, 2-4) come back to Harrington Center to take on the Manchester Spartans (11-9, 2-5) this Saturday 10/21 at 1PM. This is the Lions last home game so make sure to come support your seniors for their Senior Day!
