How it Happened:
MSJ vs. Cincinnati Christian
In the Lions first match against Cincinnati Christian they got off to a slow start. The Eagles earned a small lead early in the set and wouldn't trail for the rest of the set. After a tough start the Lions dropped the first set 25-21. The Lions came back after the break with more energy and challenged their opponents early in the set. After being knotted for most of the set, a service run from Cailey Plemmons (Oxford, OH / Talawanda) led the Lions to a 25-20 victory in the second set. The Lions found their groove in the third set and took a quick lead. The Mount dominated the third set and easily defeated the Eagles 25-11 while hitting an outstanding .531. The fourth set was the same story, the Lions jumped onto another quick lead. The Eagles found some energy to fight back in the middle of the set but a five point service run from Sydney Wilzbach (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest) gave the Lions their first victory of the season.
MSJ vs. Wilmington
In the Lions second match of the weekend they would face the Wilmington Quakers. The Mount continued their momentum from the previous game and took a lead early in the set. The Lions were firing on all cylinders as they would go on to win big in the first set, 25-15. Wilmington came back with some energy in the second set but the Lions quickly extinguished their flame. With the score tied at ten the Lions would go on to win 15 of the next 21 points to take a 25-16 set two victory. The Quakers wouldn't lose hope and continued to challenge the Lions in the final set. Wilmington had the lead for most of the set but Riley Brunner (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) put the match away on a six point service run.
The Lions were led by Plemmons and Briana Looney (Harrison, OH / Harrison) on offense during their flawless weekend. Plemmons was well-rounded in both matches, going for 29 kills and 26 digs in the two match. Looney chipped in 24 kills and 3 blocks on the weekend.
