Lions Continue 10 Game Win Streak With Win Over Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Mount St. Joseph University Lions traveled to Otterbein University to take on the Cardinals in another double header. The Lions continued their strong play and defeated the Cardinals in both games of the day, winning the first 3-2 and the second 2-1. The Lions have now extended their win streak to 10 games and look to continue their success this upcoming weekend.


Sarah Miller (Fishers, IN / St. Theodore Guerin) opened up the game for the Lions on the mound against the Cardinals. Miller pitched all seven innings in game one and faced 25 batters while allowing two runs, four hits, and struck out one batter.

On offense The Lions were able to strike first at the top of the second inning. Miller hammered a ball to right center field to give the Lions a 1-0 lead. The Lions next runs would come in the top of the 6th inning where Brandy Bunch (Mason, OH / Mason) hit another home run and brought Miller with her, giving the Lions a 3-1 lead with an inning remaining. The Cardinals managed to earn another at the bottom of the 6th inning but the Lions held them off in the 7th inning and won the game 3-2.


Briana Kouf (Orrville, OH / Orrville) started on the mound for the Lions in the second game and split time with freshman Kamryn McCool (Brookville, IN / Franklin County). Kauf faced 16 batters and allowed four hits, one run, and struck out two batters. McCool replaced Kauf halfway through the bottom of the fourth inning and faced 12 batters while allowing no hits or runs and striking out six batters.

Both teams started off slow, with the first run coming at the bottom of the fourth inning. The Cardinals earned an RBI after a fly ball to right field led to a 1-0 Lions deficit. Savannah Sturgill (West Harrison, IN / East Central) got the Lions going at the top of the sixth inning with a homerun batted to left field. The Lions were able to hold off the Cardinals and scored again in the top of the 7th inning after Paige Hampton (Versailles, KY / Woodford County) earned an RBI when McCool crossed the plate. The Lions kept the Cardinals at bay in the 7th inning and managed to take the 2-1 win in the second game.

The Lions look to continue their 10 game win streak with another home double header against Centre College on Saturday, March 23rd. The first game will start at 1:00PM followed by the second game around 3:00PM. Continue to check for more updates on the Lions 2019 season!
